The Brief
Another great collaboration with the team at KBS Developments, this Fairfield renovation presented a familiar but rewarding challenge: a compact kitchen footprint with existing timber floors and services that needed to be respected. Rather than reconfiguring the layout entirely, the focus here was on making every centimetre count — maximising storage, improving functionality, and delivering a finished result that feels considered and complete.
The Design
Working within the existing floor plan, the design solution was all about smart storage. A Hafele Le-Mans II Corner Unit makes full use of what is often the most awkward space in any kitchen, while the addition of drawers, a pull-out twin bin, and extra storage to the rear of the kitchen means nothing is wasted. It's a great reminder that a smaller kitchen, well designed, can outperform a larger one that hasn't been properly thought through.
For the joinery, Polytec Polar White was selected — clean, timeless, and a natural choice for a space where brightness and simplicity were priorities. The benchtops are finished in Caesarstone Alpine Mist, installed by Moorabbin Marble & Granite, offering a soft, neutral stone surface that works beautifully with the white cabinetry.
A standout detail is the solid Tasmanian Oak floating shelf supplied by WR Timbers and finished on site by KBS Developments to match the client's existing timber floors. It's exactly the kind of considered touch that lifts a renovation from well-executed to genuinely special — connecting the new kitchen to the character of the home it sits within.
In the bathroom and ensuite, the vanity cabinets take a warmer direction with Polytec Palace Teak Woodmatt fronts, bringing richness and depth to both spaces. Caesarstone Alpine Mist continues across the vanity benchtops, tying the wet areas back to the kitchen with a quiet material consistency throughout the home.
The Result
A compact brief, beautifully resolved. This Fairfield home now has a kitchen that punches well above its size, alongside bathrooms that feel warm, refined, and cohesive with the rest of the renovation. A pleasure to work on with the KBS Developments team once again.
