Kitchen Renovation: Vermont

The Brief

A kitchen that looked the part but simply wasn't delivering on storage - that was the challenge for this Vermont family. Working within the existing room dimensions, the brief was to find every possible opportunity for additional storage while giving the kitchen a fresh, cohesive look that would serve the family well for years to come. The solution extended beyond the kitchen itself, with additional joinery added to the end of the dining space to capture storage that the kitchen footprint alone couldn't provide.

The Design

The joinery is finished in Dulux Lexicon Quarter satin polyurethane, a warm, soft white that sits a half-step back from stark white and gives the kitchen a light, inviting quality without feeling cold. The cabinetry runs floor to ceiling in key areas, maximising every centimetre of vertical space available, and a tall pantry cabinet with pull-out drawers throughout delivers the kind of organised, accessible storage that transforms daily kitchen life. A Hafele Le-Mans II corner unit makes full use of what would otherwise be the kitchen's most underperforming space.

Caesarstone Glacier Flow benchtops provide a refined, softly veined surface that complements the Lexicon Quarter palette beautifully, and Stefano Orlati Titanium Grey handles tie the cabinetry to the clients' new black appliances with a considered metallic thread throughout. Polytec Tasmanian Oak Woodmatt floating shelves add warmth and natural texture to both the kitchen and the adjoining dining joinery, connecting the two spaces with a shared material note.

The tile selections are entirely the clients' own, and they've done a wonderful job. Solar Ash Gloss tiles from Johnson Tiles bring a subtle, luminous quality to the splashbacks; their soft grey-green tones sitting beautifully alongside the white cabinetry and stone benchtops. The floors are finished in Limestone Pearl Lappato from Elegance Tiles, a large format stone-look tile with a gentle sheen that opens the space up and gives the kitchen a genuinely premium feel underfoot.

The Result

A kitchen that now works as well as it looks. The storage problem that prompted this Vermont renovation has been thoroughly resolved, with every corner, run, and vertical space put to purposeful use. The result is a bright, considered kitchen that the whole family can enjoy, complemented by tile and material selections that give it a personal character entirely its own.
