The Brief

Some kitchens play it safe. This one doesn't — and it's all the better for it. Designed in close collaboration with the homeowner, this Heathmont kitchen renovation was always going to be something different: a space with genuine personality, built around bold colour choices and a material palette that rewards every glance. The brief was to create a kitchen that felt irresistible the moment you walked into it. Mission accomplished.

The Design

The palette is the story here, and it's one of contrasts masterfully balanced. Polytec Black Finegrain melamine on the lower cabinetry sets a strong, grounded foundation, while Polytec Classic White Matt melamine on the overhead cupboards lifts the space and prevents the darkness from overwhelming. The interplay between the two creates a visual rhythm that draws you through the kitchen — bold below, light above.

18mm black film faced ply feature panels and frames add another layer of contrast and texture, reinforcing the design's architectural quality and giving the cabinetry a considered, almost furniture-like presence. And then there's the Laminex Raspberry back panel — a flash of warm, saturated colour that stops you in your tracks. It's confident, joyful, and entirely deliberate — the kind of detail that transforms a kitchen from well-designed to genuinely memorable.

The benchtop is 25mm black film faced ply laminated in Polytec Classic White Texture laminate — a surface that ties the upper and lower cabinetry together beautifully while adding tactile interest of its own. The splashback treatment is equally inventive: a custom wallpaper selected by the client and covered in glass brings a personal, artistic element to the cooking zone, while 12mm Hafele Infinity Polar White acrylic splashback provides a clean, practical finish elsewhere — the two treatments working in concert rather than competition.

The Result

Irresistible is exactly the right word. This Heathmont kitchen is a celebration of what happens when a client brings genuine creative conviction to a renovation and a designer has the skill to bring it to life. Bold without being brash, colourful without being chaotic — it's a kitchen that's as fun to be in as it is to look at. A truly standout project.
