The Brief
Downsizing to an apartment on St Kilda Road gave these clients the opportunity they had always wanted: to start fresh with a kitchen that was streamlined, sophisticated, and entirely without compromise. The space was compact, but the ambition was anything but. The brief was to deliver a small city kitchen that felt generous, functional, and genuinely beautiful — and to make every centimetre count.
The Design
In a kitchen this size, integration is everything. By integrating the fridge and freezer, dishwasher, and a pull-out pantry into the cabinetry, the kitchen achieves something rare in an apartment setting: clean, uninterrupted lines from one end of the space to the other. The existing bulkhead, rather than being worked around, was reinvented as a design feature — a decision that gives the kitchen a considered, architectural quality that belies its compact footprint.
The joinery is finished in Dulux Natural White gloss two-pack polyurethane — a high-sheen finish that reflects light beautifully and gives the cabinetry a premium, lacquered quality entirely in keeping with the St Kilda Road address. Quantum Quartz Carrara Quartz benchtops with a waterfall end add a refined stone surface and a touch of luxury detail, while Dulux Teahouse glass splashbacks — carried through to the return back panel — introduce a warm, sophisticated colour note that lifts the palette without disrupting its calm.
Storage is handled with equal intelligence. A Hafele pull-out pantry maximises vertical space without encroaching on the kitchen's clean lines, while Blum Orgaline drawer systems and Blum Antaro White soft-close runners ensure every drawer operates with the precision and quality the overall fit-out deserves. These are the fittings you feel every time you open a drawer — quietly exceptional.
The clients' own choice of artwork completes the kitchen, adding a personal, gallery-like quality to the space that transforms it from beautifully designed to genuinely memorable.
The Result
Small in footprint, large in personality. This St Kilda Road apartment kitchen proves that compact city living and exceptional design are not just compatible — they're a natural pairing. Streamlined, sophisticated, and full of considered detail, it's everything our clients always wanted and more. A real wow, in the best possible way.
