The Brief

A whole-home renovation can feel overwhelming — but not for this Newport family. They arrived with a clear vision, well-defined spaces to work within, and had even sourced their feature black upright stove and canopy before the design process began. The goal was equally clear: bring a beloved home into the 21st century and create a space worthy of raising a family in. With the luxury of room for a walk-in butler's pantry, the conditions were in place for something genuinely special.

The Design

The butler's pantry changes everything. By giving storage, preparation, and the practical demands of a busy kitchen their own dedicated space, the main kitchen is freed up to be exactly what it should be — open, generous, and designed for both everyday living and relaxed entertaining. Ample bench space flows uninterrupted, and the overall feel is one of calm functionality rather than cluttered compromise.

Polytec Classic White doors establish the kitchen's clean, crisp foundation — a timeless choice that lets the more characterful elements of the design take centre stage. Chief among these is the Spotted Gum feature shelving, whose warm, distinctive grain softens the white cabinetry beautifully and introduces a natural Australian timber quality that feels entirely at home in a Newport setting. The client's choice of textured porcelain tiles as a splashback adds further depth and tactile interest, and serves as the perfect backdrop for the feature black upright stove and canopy — appliances that were always going to be the kitchen's focal point and are given exactly the stage they deserve.

The benchtop treatment is one of the renovation's most considered details. Rather than a single stone surface throughout, two tones of reconstituted stone were specified for a deliberate point of difference. Caesarstone White Shimmer runs along the wall benchtops — light, clean, and in keeping with the white cabinetry — while Caesarstone Urban on the island bench introduces a darker, moodier tone that adds contrast and anchors the space. The island's waterfall end greets you as you enter from the hallway, making an immediate and lasting impression from the moment you arrive.

The Result

A home brought beautifully into the 21st century — and then some. This Newport renovation balances the warmth of natural timber, the drama of black appliances, and the sophistication of a two-tone stone palette into a kitchen that feels both considered and completely liveable. A home this family will grow into and enjoy for years to come.
