Meeting the Brief

Sometimes the limitations of an existing area create an opportunity for some creative thinking when meeting a client brief, as was the case with this kitchen renovation. The brief was to maximise and increase the kitchen space and renovate the laundry.

Innovation and Creative Planning

The client's original plan was to open the kitchen up by using the laundry area as well, and incorporate a European Laundry into the kitchen. The existing structure made this impractical though. It would have required bricking in the door and window spaces in the laundry and removing the wall between the kitchen and laundry.

While this would have created a larger floor space, it would have seriously decreased the storage space; creating a large but not very functional space.

So after many design sessions we came up with what is now a functional space for both the laundry and kitchen.

We removed a small section of non structural wall which allowed the cabinetry in the kitchen to be extended. These section house the integrated fridge and freezer. The other side of this is additional storage space.

In the end, we have two functional and effective rooms that are a far cry for the originals. Functional, practical and modern.
